Modi likened the parliamentary session to the monsoon season, suggesting both should be “proactive and productive” for the nation’s welfare. The session is set to run until August 13 and is poised to address several significant legislative matters.
Highlighting India’s recent advancements, Modi lauded the country’s achievements on the global stage, particularly in the space sector. He praised the efforts of Skyroot Aerospace, a private space startup, noting that the average age of its team is just 28 years. This, he argued, underscores the aspirations and capabilities of India’s younger generation. In a veiled reference to Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, Modi remarked that his comments were about “young people” and not a “56-year-old youth.”
The Monsoon Session is expected to cover crucial legislative proposals, including amendments related to foreign funding regulations, taxation, higher education, judicial reforms, and the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises. Among the key legislative measures is a proposal to increase the number of Supreme Court judges from 33 to 37, excluding the Chief Justice of India, to help alleviate the backlog of cases.
As the session unfolds, intense political debate is anticipated, with the government pushing for a series of reforms while the opposition plans to raise various national issues. Modi’s call for constructive debate comes as the government seeks to navigate these complex discussions and implement its legislative agenda effectively.
