During a two-day visit to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his hopes to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the near future. Putin shared these sentiments while hosting India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the Kremlin. The anticipated meeting could coincide with events related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and Putin is also expected to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for September.
Putin emphasized the strengthening trade relations between Russia and India, particularly noting the increase in fertiliser supplies to India. He also mentioned Russia’s readiness to further expand these supplies, reflecting a deepening of economic ties between the two nations.
In a separate engagement, Jaishankar met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Manturov highlighted the possibility of Russia localizing nuclear fuel production within India, which could mark a significant development in their collaborative efforts.
Jaishankar is also expected to hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. These discussions aim to address not only bilateral relations but also broader regional and global issues, continuing the dialogue on various strategic fronts.
