Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has assumed additional responsibilities as India’s Education Minister, marking the start of his new role with an evaluation of significant education programs and the execution of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Upon taking office at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi, Joshi engaged with senior officials from both the Departments of School Education and Higher Education to gain insights into the ministry’s current operations.
Recognizing that education is an unfamiliar domain for him, Joshi expressed a need for time to thoroughly understand the ministry’s workings before providing in-depth comments. He emphasized his commitment to comprehending the department’s activities and ensuring the continuation of critical education programs.
Joshi highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has entrusted him with this significant responsibility. The focus, he noted, would be on grasping the department’s functioning to maintain momentum in major educational initiatives.
The change in leadership came after President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the former Education Minister. Joshi’s appointment reflects a strategic move to uphold the continuity and progress of India’s educational reforms under the NEP 2020 framework.
