In a significant announcement during the 60th foundation day celebrations of Shiv Sena in Mumbai, Uddhav Thackeray expressed his readiness to resign as the party’s president if the members no longer trust his leadership. His statement comes amidst growing speculation about an impending split within Shiv Sena (UBT). Thackeray emphasized his openness to new leadership emerging from within the party but firmly opposed the party falling into the hands of what he termed as “betrayers.”

Reports suggest that several Members of Parliament from Shiv Sena (UBT) might realign their loyalties towards the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Addressing these developments, Thackeray apologized to the voters who supported the candidates under his leadership, expressing his disillusionment over the potential defections. His comments highlight the internal strife and the challenges facing the party as it navigates these turbulent times.

Thackeray didn’t hold back in his criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of trying to destabilize and dismantle Shiv Sena. He voiced concerns about India’s political landscape, warning of a shift towards a system dominated by a single party. This critique underscores the broader political tensions and rivalries that are influencing party dynamics at both state and national levels.

Regarding his stance on the Congress party, Thackeray acknowledged the long-standing political rivalry between Shiv Sena and Congress, noting that the Congress had never sought to eradicate Shiv Sena. Despite this, he dismissed the possibility of a merger with Congress, reaffirming Shiv Sena’s commitment to representing the interests of the Marathi people. This statement serves to clarify Shiv Sena’s position and its independent identity amidst the shifting political alliances.
