Maharashtra Requires Aadhaar for Property Registrations to Curb Fraud

In a significant move to combat fraud and enhance security in property transactions, Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for the registration of immovable property documents starting October 1. The new requirement aims to bolster identity verification across 63 types of registrations, including sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds, according to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

The implementation of Aadhaar authentication is intended to mitigate issues of impersonation, fake documentation, and excessive human intervention in the property registration process. Individuals who do not possess an Aadhaar number must submit proof of their application for Aadhaar, along with other government-issued identity documents. The information provided will undergo verification before finalizing the transaction.

Special accommodations have been made for specific groups, such as minors, ensuring that children without an Aadhaar number are not excluded from property registration benefits. The Maharashtra government emphasizes that these measures will make the registration process more secure, transparent, and efficient.

This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to leveraging technology to safeguard property transactions and streamline administrative procedures. By mandating Aadhaar authentication, Maharashtra aims to create a more reliable and trustworthy framework for property dealings.
