Union Home Minister Amit Shah has emphasized the significant role of Uttar Pradesh in India’s defence manufacturing sector, particularly highlighting the impact of BrahMos missiles produced in the state. Speaking at the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Shah remarked that these missiles are causing concern for Pakistan, underscoring the strategic importance of the state’s defence production capabilities.
Shah noted the substantial investments being made across Uttar Pradesh’s Defence Industrial Corridor, which includes six key nodes in Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur. He cited the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow as a prime example of the state’s growing defence manufacturing prowess. This facility, inaugurated in May 2025, is responsible for the assembly, integration, and testing of the supersonic cruise missiles, with the first batch completed in October 2025.
Established with an investment of approximately ₹300 crore across nearly 200 acres, the Lucknow facility aims to bolster indigenous defence production while supporting related industries and generating skilled employment opportunities. Shah also highlighted the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi as another notable achievement of Uttar Pradesh’s expanding industrial capabilities.
Beyond defence, Shah praised the overall industrial development in Uttar Pradesh, attributing it to an improved law-and-order environment and initiatives like the One District, One Product scheme. These developments, he said, are creating more employment opportunities for the state’s youth and attracting further investment.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, running from September 25 to 29, serves as a platform for showcasing these advancements, bringing together manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers.
