In a significant development for manufacturing industries, Swedish company Opsio has introduced PrismIQ, an innovative automated visual inspection service. This new technology aims to enhance real-time detection of production defects, with India being the first country to experience its commercial availability. Opsio plans a broader international rollout following its debut in India.
PrismIQ integrates industrial cameras with deep-learning models tailored to the specific products of each manufacturer. It efficiently identifies issues like surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional discrepancies, and assembly errors throughout the production process. The system operates on edge hardware installed directly on production lines, enabling swift processing of inspection results without total reliance on manual checks. Additionally, it can connect with existing PLC and SCADA systems to facilitate automated sorting and decision-making on production lines.
Addressing the challenges of manual inspection, particularly on high-speed production lines, PrismIQ seeks to refine defect detection through its active-learning system, which evolves using production data. Unlike standalone vision software, PrismIQ is a comprehensive service that encompasses camera, lens, and lighting configuration, model development, validation, factory integration, and ongoing operation. Opsio also provides operator training, quality dashboards, and periodic performance reviews to ensure optimal functioning of the service.
The typical timeline for implementing PrismIQ, from feasibility assessment to production deployment, ranges between eight to twelve weeks. Opsio chose India for the initial launch due to its rapidly expanding manufacturing sector and the company’s existing infrastructure in the region, including an AI Lab in Bengaluru dedicated to developing and testing applied AI solutions. The service is initially available to manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors, with initial engagements beginning with feasibility studies and proof-of-concept trials using the manufacturer’s product samples.
Opsio Chairman Daniel Hedlund highlighted the transformative potential of PrismIQ, stating that the scaling of Indian manufacturing, coupled with a focus on quality, could bolster global competitiveness. Praveena Shenoy, Country Manager for Opsio India, echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence that automated inspection would enable manufacturers to identify defects earlier and enhance quality-control processes.
