Indian stock markets experienced a notable upswing on Monday as the BSE Sensex surged by 472.77 points, or 0.66%, closing at 72,382.47. The Nifty 50 also climbed, gaining 133.80 points, or 0.60%, to settle at 22,555.75. This rally was largely driven by softer-than-expected employment data from the United States, which eased concerns over aggressive interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve.
The positive momentum in the markets was further supported by a decline in crude oil prices, which allayed some inflation worries. Brent crude was trading around $102.40 a barrel, offering relief to investors who have been concerned about rising costs.
Among the top performers on the Sensex were companies like ITC, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, and Larsen & Toubro. Conversely, some stocks, including HCL Technologies, HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma, Infosys, and Asian Paints, saw declines.
Investors are now turning their attention to upcoming domestic economic indicators, such as the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision and the next corporate earnings season, which could further influence market trends.
On the broader Asian front, markets displayed mixed results. Japan’s Nikkei 225 saw a significant rise of over 2%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index closed slightly higher, reflecting varied investor sentiment across the region.
