Amit Shah Invites Opposition to Debate Vote Theft Claims in Parliament

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has challenged the Opposition to bring their allegations of vote theft to Parliament, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is prepared to convene a special session to discuss the matter. This statement was made during a BJP state working committee meeting in Lucknow, where Shah claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would likely avoid a parliamentary debate on the issue.

Shah’s remarks come in response to the Opposition’s planned protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. These protests include a symbolic public impeachment event and a major demonstration at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground, driven by concerns over perceived threats to democratic institutions. The Opposition has voiced criticism over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, suggesting that the process could disproportionately impact voters to the advantage of the ruling BJP.

At the meeting, Shah specifically called on Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav to substantiate their claims against the Election Commission within the parliamentary setting. He dismissed the accusations as unfounded and accused the Opposition of favoring street protests over engaging in formal legislative discussions.

Shah further critiqued the Congress and Samajwadi Party for their electoral strategies, suggesting that their leaders attributed election losses to the Election Commission rather than reflecting on their own political shortcomings. He defended the BJP’s electoral record and accused the Opposition of raising allegations of vote theft as a reaction to electoral defeats.

The INDIA bloc, which had initially planned to stage the symbolic impeachment event at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence, postponed it due to unseasonal rainfall. As the political discourse intensifies, Shah’s challenge underscores the BJP’s stance on addressing the allegations within the framework of parliamentary debate, contrasting with the Opposition’s approach of public demonstrations.
